Olympus C2000Z – @ 6.6 mm 1/125 sec at f / 2.5 - ISO 100
My friend Dan has always had a special affinity for my cat Perl. Being a cat with a contested relationship to physical touch, I've always imagined all the extra attention she gets puts violent ideas in her head.
Olympus C3040Z – @ 7.3 mm 1/320 sec at f / 5.0 - ISO 100
One of my favorite portraits ever. Being shot with an older, 3 megapixel camera reinforces my opinion that you can take a fantastic photo with any camera.
There's something stark about the photo itself, and yet it makes me think of my family and how much I love them.
Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT – 50.0 mm @ 50 mm 1/6 sec at f / 2.8 - ISO 200
I took this shot of the Mount Tabor reservoir right after I got my first digital SLR, a Canon 350D Rebel XT.
Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT – 50.0 mm @ 50 mm 5.0 sec at f / 11 - ISO 400
The night before the Fourth of July we got to see some wonderful natural fireworks. The best thing about that night: Not a single drop of rain as electricity fell from the sky repeatedly.
Canon EOS 40D – EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM @ 100 mm 1/100 sec at f / 6.3 - ISO 400
I went to an aviary near Tucson, Arizona at the Sonoma High Desert museum and photographed this hummingbird in repose. This might be her better side, though.
Canon EOS 40D – EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM @ 100 mm 1/30 sec at f / 2.8 - ISO 100
Someone had left a lolipop, probably of saguaro cactus nectar, on the edge of the garbage can where it attracted many bees. Growing up in Illinois, I was lucky to be around many insects that make beautiful song.
Canon EOS 40D – EF50mm f/1.4 USM @ 50 mm 1/25 sec at f / 2.2 - ISO 200
This photo nailed exactly the look I was going for in my head. I wish it was easier to perform that trick every time. I felt very fortunate that in the few short minutes that the sun was at the perfect setting I was able to futz with different flash settings until I got what I wanted and snap a couple pics.
Canon EOS 40D – EF50mm f/1.4 USM @ 50 mm 1/400 sec at f / 4.5 - ISO 400
Canon EOS 40D – EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM @ 100 mm 1/30 sec at f / 2.8 - ISO 100
Bahar and I went to El Indio for dinner with Britta and Mary.
While I waited for Bahar to pick me up, I took some shots of flora really quickly. I accidentally went full open aperture and was delighted by the result.
Canon EOS 40D – EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM @ 100 mm 1.0 sec at f / 11 - ISO 160
Karri Elliot of the Angora Valley Fibers & Fly Designs booth let me photograph her 1904 P.T. LeGare sock knitting machine in action. The mechanical action of the needles was so fun to watch.
Canon EOS 40D – EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM @ 100 mm 1/15 sec at f / 11 - ISO 160
I accidentally knocked off a beauitful iris off its stem in my yard. I figured, idiot, may as well not waste an opportunity to take a macro.
Shot with a PhotoFlex QL-Starlite, 500 watt tungsten bulb, mini-foldup studio.
Canon EOS 40D – EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM @ 33 mm 1/250 sec at f / 2.8 - ISO 160
By chance I forgot to straighten out the flash head on my camera and my camera delighted me by capturing Dan and Moonrise with some beautiful bounce flash.
Canon EOS 40D – EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM @ 17 mm 1/80 sec at f / 5.0 - ISO 100
Kali-mehh?!?! Can anything express disdain like a cat?
Canon EOS 40D – EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM @ 17 mm 1/30 sec at f / 2.8 - ISO 200
I slipped Kettle a rufie and drove him in the subie. I have to say that the cats in my life are amazingly resilient about humiliation.
Canon EOS 40D – EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM @ 17 mm 1/400 sec at f / 10 - ISO 160
I love the 17mm lens's ability to bring me into the world of the small. To see things from their perspective.
Canon EOS 40D – EF50mm f/1.4 USM @ 50 mm 1/200 sec at f / 2.8 - ISO 160
My friend held a farewell dinner at her house after it had been sold. I continued my tradition of snapping candids while the subject is in the middle of talking to someone else.
Canon EOS 40D – EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM @ 100 mm 1/15 sec at f / 8.0 - ISO 125
This was my first job doing food product photography, taken at the fabulous Kesone Thai Lao Bistro in Portland.
Canon EOS 40D – EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM @ 20 mm 1/320 sec at f / 9.0 - ISO 125
The image that reminded me of Harold & Maude taken from another angle.
Note: I found a picture from the scene I was thinking of and it doesn't do a bit of justice to my memories.
Canon EOS 40D – EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM @ 17 mm 1/5 sec at f / 6.3 - ISO 125
I was proud that my friend let me photograph him at work in his home studio for his Wikipedia page.
